Summer is traditionally a time of relaxation, but we at Extension are ramping up our new program efforts in the months ahead: We are expanding our popular public event series to include summer selections. These evening and afternoon events vary widely, from popular commentator Marty Nemko discussing career tips and strategies for professionals to an innovative panel discussion about how art interacts with technology, society and life. Discover the broad scope of these summer offerings.

For those of you who are interested in learning from the world-class faculty on our campus, we are continuing the UC Berkeley Psychology Department Distinguished Faculty Series with two new workshops. Professor Arthur Shimamura examines the latest research on memory, the brain and aging. And Professor Robert Levenson delves into the understanding of human emotions.

In addition to that exciting series, Extension is justly proud of our core courses, certificates and programs that have educated and entertained students for many years. Project management, statistics, biology and editing are just a few subjects that have always had devoted students. Nevertheless, each term, we offer new courses based on everything from breakthroughs in research to the latest innovations in various fields, to emerging technologies. This term, we have courses on marketing for startups, caring for people with Alzheimer’s, and even genre fiction that focuses on vampires and steampunk. It’s no wonder that we have developed such a fervent fan base of some of the best students and most curious minds around.

Whatever your interests, I hope that you take the initiative to enroll in a UC Berkeley Extension course this summer. You will find a community of caring, experienced instructors and a peer group of incredibly talented and intellectually agile adults. We look forward to seeing you learn and grow with us at Extension.
