Sandi Potter photoSandi Potter, Art and Design

Art is no longer just a hobby for Sandi Potter; she can now add artist to her professional résumé (which also includes her career as a geology and environmental scientist). Specializing in print making, Potter is currently an artist in residence at Kala Art Institute—thanks to a recommendation from UC Berkeley Extension instructor Heather Wilcoxon, whom she met while taking the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts.

"After years of art making, it feels like I finally completed my college art degree," Potter says of her newly acquired certificate. "You may not think of Extension as the first place to go study art, but what I'm seeing on the ground is a very high level of skill from my fellow students. That's demonstrated when you look at the professionalism and the work that is shown in the downstairs gallery at Extension's Art and Design Center."

Potter can count herself as part of that artistic community creating inspiring work. Alongside other artists, she's developing a curatorial proposal for a group show and is placing her artwork in various outlets, including Salon 1757 in Berkeley. But she's not finished there. "At UC Berkeley Extension, I always found challenge and an opportunity to grow," she says. "I would still come back and take classes even though I finished the certificate."
