Classics of Children's Literature

X75 (3 semester units in English)

An elective in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Writing

During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, many of the major works of children's literature were published, among them Alice in Wonderland, The Wind in the Willows, Peter Pan, Treasure Island, and The Wizard of Oz. This course examines these and other classics of children's literature with the aim of discovering what visions they present of childhood, of the social world, and of the self. Particular attention is given to how these books address the two audiences of children's literature: the child and the adult.
