UNIX/Linux Web and Database Servers

An elective in the Certificate Program in UNIX/Linux System AdministrationStudents will learn to understand and manage Web/database services (Apache2, PHP, PERL, MySQL) on UNIX/Linux-based systems (UNIX-Solaris, HPUX, AIX, HPUX, BSD, etc.; Linux; or Mac OS X). They will learn how to install and configure these services and will understand the interaction of these services and system security. The skills and techniques learned will enable students to install and administer Web/database services on a UNIX/Linux-based system. They will also be able to perform the typical duties of the system administrator when managing a system providing these services.
Prerequisites: UNIX/Linux System Administration III: Services X444.2 (and all prerequisites to this course). Participants should have access to a UNIX/Linux-based system to do homework on, with a printer or e-mail and access to the Internet (not necessarily on the UNIX system).

MARCELO CARVALHO, M.A., is a data network, voice communications, and software application engineer at Usabound, where he manages the company's servers, Voiceover Internet Protocol (VoIP) and data networks across the U.S. and Europe. He has been teaching UC Extension courses since 2000 on UNIX, shell programming, C language, and Perl programming.
