Assessment and Treatment of Mental Illness in Older Adults

A required course in the Professional Program in Aging and Mental HealthThis workshop provides an overview of some of the major approaches to working with older persons and their families in medical, long-term care, and mental health settings, as well as in private practice. You cover some of the basic assessment tools and a range of evidence-based treatments for depression and other co-occurring diagnoses. You also learn how to identify some of the conditions commonly associated with aging (e.g., Alzheimer's, dementia, memory loss, etc.) and how to recognize family and generational issues, and elder abuse.
Note: This workshop runs concurrently with Licensure Workshop on Aging and Long-Term Care. It meets and exceeds the Board of Psychology and Board of Behavioral Science three-hour requirement for training in aging and long-term care.

She practices at Kaiser Permanente and has a private practice in the East Bay, where she treats patients and families who are facing acute, chronic, or life-threatening illness.
