Introduction to American Politics

Explore the theoretical implications of democracy and justice in this in-depth look at the structure of the American political system. This course analyzes the basic workings of the Constitution and the institutions of the federal government, including Congress, the presidency, the bureaucracy, and the judiciary. Examine the system of electoral politics, including parties, interest groups, social movements, public opinion, and participation, as well as several areas of public policy: defense, foreign policy, civil rights and liberties, social spending, welfare reform, and the economy.
