General Biology Laboratory I

X15.1A (2 semester units in Molecular and Cell Biology)

(formerly General Biology Laboratory-A)

This laboratory course introduces fundamental concepts in biology, including cell structure and function; metabolism; molecular and organismal genetics; classification; and animal development, form, and function. The class is designed for biology majors, pre-medical, and pre-health students. In addition, it is appropriate for returning students interested in a "refresher" biology class, and professionals in other disciplines considering a career change to the biological sciences. Emphasis is given to the development of laboratory skills such as instrumentation, data analysis, and observational skills. This course is associated with General Biology I X15A.

Prerequisite: General Biology 1 X15A must be completed with a C or better or taken concurrently.

CLYTIA MONTLLOR CURLEY, Ph.D., has taught anatomy and physiology, general biology, entomology, and environmental science at California State University East Bay, Merritt College, Laney College, Holy Names College, and UC Berkeley Extension. She has spent more than 15 years as a researcher at UC Berkeley and in industry.

YONG ZHU, M.B.A., Ph.D., has more than 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. He has held positions in research, development, manufacturing, business development, sales and marketing. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the City University of New York, and an M.B.A. from Cornell University.
