Art of China
X401.1 (2 semester units in Art History)
This course explores the visual culture of China, including jades, bronzes, calligraphy, painting and sculpture, a range of decorative arts, ceramics, and export wares, their conceptual and contextual foundations in ritual, religion, daily life, as well as government and society, industry, international relations, and trade. The origins of these traditions in the artifacts reveal how these concepts and ideas continue to inform even the most avant-garde Chinese contemporary arts.
