Urban Permaculture Design
X449 (2 semester units in Architecture)
Urban Permaculture Design is sustainable and regenerative living systems design. Learn the fundamentals of this whole-systems design approach to creating sustainable settlements and enterprises. This elective course covers ecological design approaches and techniques, zones, sectors, sustainable community strategies, soil building and remediation, water storage and harvesting, local food production, eco-economics, and more. Visioning and planning as well as pattern application and community governance are covered. Students connect to urban permaculture community resources, networks, and projects.

Wed. Sept. 16, San Francisco
KEVIN BAYUK an artist, filmmaker and technology entrepreneur, is an advocate for ecotopian living. He develops organizations and projects that regenerate healthy ecosystems and socially just environments. He serves on the board of directors for the Urban Alliance for Sustainability, facilitates permaculture trainings, and shares his skills in organic gardening and composting in community workshops.
FRED BOVE, M.Ed., is a certified permaculture designer, consultant and teacher, having studied permaculture techniques and practices in Northern California, Hawaii and Southeast Asia. He recently served as associate director of adult education at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, where he developed programming, exhibits, tours, and public events related to horticulture and environmental issues.Revised class schedule in red.
