Digital Authoring for Dynamic Publishing
X463 (2 semester units in Journalism)
Authoring is not the same as it used to be. Methods of writing
have changed over the years due to the explosion of Internet
publishing. In this course, through lectures, analyses of test
cases, relevant texts, and a final project, you learn how to
compose dynamic content using the best practices of digital
authoring.
This course explores a variety of publishing results for businesses such as manufacturing, engineering, healthcare, financial services, and government through the exploration of relevant authoring and database software. The content development processes of repurposing and reassembly are examined via Web form-processing that includes .html requests, PHP server-side processing, .xml modules, and JavaScript responses. As you become familiar with this process, you will develop "guidelines" to assist in your own Digital Authoring projects. You will also describe and share your experiences in a short essay.
