Value: The Exploration of Cultural and Spiritual Meanings in Landscape Design
X454 (1 semester unit in Landscape Architecture)
Learn to develop and articulate the critical, conceptual, and philosophical ideals that guide your understanding of gardens and landscape. Through a series of in-class lectures by the instructor and expert guest speakers, you gain an understanding of the fundamental concepts of the history, aesthetics, and spiritual and political implications of landscape creation. Written exercises, class discussions, and readings deepen your knowledge of the topics put forward in the lectures.

TOPHER DELANEY, B.A., in landscape architecture, is the lead artist at T. Delaney/Seam Studio, a design/build firm, and a current San Francisco Arts Commissioner. She has lectured internationally and has been recognized in multiple publications, including Urban Sanctuaries and a monograph on her work, Ten Landscapes. She has also taught at the Fromm Institute.Revised class schedule in red.
