NEW THIS TERM
California Design Icons
(0.4 ceu)
Since the dynamic early years of the twentieth century, California interior designers have introduced new and dynamic concepts of modern living and modern style. In the process, they have changed the way we live. Through the medium of movie sets, as well as books and design publications, they have inspired and influenced interior design and style around the world.
This course uses extensive images from California interiors to evaluate the work and influence of Elsie de Wolfe, famous for elegant rooms with a dash of wit, as well as Frances Elkins and Michael Taylor, all credited with inventing the California Look. The dynamic interiors of San Francisco designer John Dickinson are examined, along with today's icons—Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, Anthony Hail, Pamela Babey, Paul Wiseman, Rose Tarlow, Stephen Weaver and Craig Leavitt and Michael S. Smith, who was recently named decorator for the White House.
