Construction Green Building Materials for LEED

X401.1 (2 semester units in Civ. & Env. Eng.)

An elective in the Certificate Program in Construction Management

Learn construction green building materials as evaluated by LEED rating system. Examine issues of reuse, recycle, construction waste management, and environmentally preferable materials selection for commercial building. Understand the hierarchy of environmentally preferable material selection in commercial buildings through case studies and demonstrations by industry leaders. Learn materials selection sources, production methods, installation, maintenance, and deconstruction processes. Study building reuse, design for deconstruction, material re-use, donation, and salvage in the context of construction waste management. Examine national and global markets for these services.

KELLY GEARHART, B.A., LEED AP, is a principal with Triple Green Building Group, LLC. Gearhart has consulted with hundreds of clients on commercial and residential green building strategies. She teaches LEED and green building courses, facilitates green building charrettes, administers LEED projects domestically and internationally, presents at conferences, and serves on USGBC boards and councils.
