LEED for Homes: Integrated Project Planning

X498.1 (2 semester units in Civ. & Env. Eng.)

Learn state-of-the-art residential green building, LEED for Homes design, and hands-on project planning methodologies based on the work of Donella Meadows and Bill Reed. Methodically examine the impacts of technologies, tools, processes, and mindsets on the efficiency of achieving green building projects ' objectives. Practice applying principles of integrated design and project management (ID/PM) in the context of a green building project. Equip yourself with professional knowledge and leadership skills to effectively support LEED for Homes projects ' best practices.

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." The implication for those involved in green building is that we need to recalibrate our thinking. The conventional approach to green building, for example, is to investigate materials, performance characteristics, and design features. ID/PM inverts the process by examining mindset, progressing to identification and development of processes, and ultimately creating tools in support of truly high-performance green building projects.
