California Contractor License Exam Prep—"A" General Engineering
X400.4 (1 semester unit in Civ. & Env. Eng.)
Prepare to pass the Class "A" general engineering contractor license exam, which consists of two parts: the Law and Business (LAW) and the TRADE exams. Study the business and legal aspects of operating a construction company. Learn the technical aspects of general building. You also review all subject areas that are contained in both the LAW and TRADE exams, learn test strategies, and practice on sample questions to gain confidence for the exam process itself.
The student should possess the minimum requirements to qualify to sit for the examination as set by the State Board. Generally, the applicant should have at least four years of construction experience as a journeyman, foreman, supervisor, or contractor in the field of general engineering. College and/or trade school can count up to three years towards the four-year requirement.
