Planting Design
X401 (3 semester units in Landscape Architecture)
A requirement in the Certificate Program in Landscape ArchitecturePlants are an important expressive design medium. After an overview of the history of planting in environmental design, this studio course focuses on the design process: site analysis, client/user analysis, and schematic design. It presents the concepts of plant massing, scale, space, proportion, color, texture, light, scent, illusion, and seasonal changes. Students prepare planting plans based on these concepts.
Prerequisites: Completion of all courses leading up to and including Studio L1: Environmental Design X116.
