Family Recovery in Chemical Dependency

A requirement in the Certificate Program in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies

Review assessment, intervention, and treatment in chemically dependent families using a developmental model of recovery. Topics include needs, concerns, and resistances of individual members and the family as a whole; the dynamics of codependency; a comparison of approaches to family recovery; treatment techniques appropriate to the different phases of family recovery; and strategies to help prevent family relapse.

DEAN BLUMBERG, Ph.D., LMFT, CADC, is a manager at the San Francisco Kaiser Permanente Chemical Dependency Recovery Program where he coordinates the Family, Adolescent and Internship programs. He has worked in the chemical dependency field since 1985.
