Financial Security Analysis

This course provides a solid framework to understand and practice fundamental analysis as it is applied to stocks, bonds, and fixed-income securities. Students develop analytical tools to analyze a company for investment purposes and develop guidelines for evaluating purchases of stocks and fixed-income securities.
Topics include the theory and purpose of investment, financial statement analysis review, ratio analysis, alternative methods for forecasting corporate profits, valuation techniques, technical analysis, fixed-income research, and portfolio management.
The course is intended for those making investment decisions and recommendations, including research assistants, registered representatives, financial planners, and security salespeople. Individual investors can develop their understanding of security analysis.
Prerequisite: Basic Corporate Finance X430.1 or consent of instructor.

KIRK O. KNAPP, M.S.E.E., M.B.A., CFP, CFA, is an investment advisor and member of the faculty in Graduate Business at Saint Mary's College of California. He enjoys managing portfolios for clients and himself and teaching finance and investment management.
