This introductory course focuses on the basic topics, concepts, and principles of the discipline and considers the influence of social phenomena on human behavior, using comparative multicultural and cross-cultural approaches and drawing on current, relevant examples. Topics include social ranking and mobility, crime and deviance, poverty, racial and ethnic minority status, gender discrimination, aging as a social process, the family, economic systems, political systems, religion, healthcare, education, and types and theories of social change.
