Studio I: Conceptual Design, Residential and Commercial
X408.1 (4 semester units in Architecture)
A requirement in the Certificate Program in Interior Design and Interior ArchitectureIn this first in a series of four design studios, you focus on applying the fundamental theories and principles of design to the layout of interior space. Topics include programming (identifying users, space requirements, functional relationships, and organization) and conceptual design development. The concept of universal design is incorporated in designing a residential space and a small-scale commercial interior. Anthropometrics and other human factors are required components of the design criteria.
Note: Course fee includes a $50 lab fee.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Interior Design X408.4, Principles and Elements of Design X412.1, Drafting X412.2, Perspective Drawing X413.4, Rapid Visualization Techniques X419, and Space Planning X413.8, or consent of instructor.

JULIE BARRON, B.F.A., is a commercial and residential designer with more than 25 years of experience in space planning, project management, construction administration and environmental consulting. A graduate of the California College of the Arts, she is a member of IFMA and presently works as a store planner and project manager.
