Materials of Interior Design
X414 (4 semester units in Architecture)
A requirement in the Certificate Program in Interior Design and Interior ArchitectureLearn to evaluate the characteristics of finishes and surface materials for use in interior applications to determine their appropriateness for different uses. You study how materials are installed and how they transition into one another. You learn to understand the substructure on which they are applied. Activities include lectures and panel discussions by product representatives and field trips to showrooms and manufacturing facilities. You complete two projects and research assignments during the term.
Prerequisite: Principles and Elements of Design X412.1 and Drafting X412.2, or consent of instructor.

SARAH TARANTINO, M.S., IIDA, LEED AP, graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a master's degree in interior design and has a bachelor's degree in art history from St. Lawrence University. She is a NCIDQ-certified interior designer and works at Ellerbe Becket, where she is involved in residential, commercial and healthcare projects.Revised class schedule in red.
