Biochemistry
X115A (3 semester units in Molecular and Cell Biology)
Study the common molecular processes and chemical reactions that underlie diverse life forms. You begin by examining the relationship between the three-dimensional structure of proteins and their biological activity. Next you look at the mechanism of enzyme action, how enzymes recognize their substrates and enhance reaction rates, and the control of enzymatic activity. Finally, you develop an integrated picture of metabolism in the body by examining metabolic pathways and their regulation and control.
Prerequisite: One year of college-level general biology for majors, and organic chemistry.
There are currently no sections open for enrollment.
