Book Cover Design
X497 (1 semester unit in Design)
How many of us can say we never judge a book by its cover? A good book cover should catch a potential buyer's eye as well as visually convey the book's essence. Drawing upon historical and contemporary examples, this course examines the qualities of good book cover design. Aesthetic considerations are discussed, such as combining type and image, using color combinations, and working within genres. In addition, the course provides practical information on handling client revisions and meeting client expectations, marketing a portfolio, and dealing with technical and printing issues.
Prerequisites: Familiarity with Photoshop and InDesign or QuarkXPress.
