12 hours CE credit: BRN, LCSW/MFT, and psychologists
A required course in the Professional Program in Child and Adolescent TreatmentBasic knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent psychopathology is essential for mental health practitioners. This course teaches you to identify, classify, and ultimately diagnose specific pediatric psychiatric conditions. It also offers a clear and practical guide to the treatment options for children and adolescents with mental illness.
You cover the contemporary classification of pediatric psychiatric disorders and gain knowledge of the neurobiology and neurochemistry of common conditions. You learn how mental disorders manifest at different developmental stages, and you are introduced to screening and diagnostic tools helpful in your practice.
At the end of the course you should be able to define diagnosis in terms of specific disorders and their developmental variations, select appropriate interventions, and evaluate outcomes. The intended audience is nonmedical licensed clinicians, psychiatric nurses, and pediatricians.
