Color Theory for the Visual Arts

X403 (2 semester units in Art)
A requirement in the Specialized Program in Painting; an elective in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual ArtsStrengthen your use of color by understanding how colors interact. This foundation course for basic painting includes lectures and projects on perception and color intensity, the value scale and simultaneous contrast, the effects and physics of color, and theories on color psychology.

Courses are offered three terms per year: spring, summer, fall. Information about upcoming courses is available when enrollment opens each term.
- Spring term: Enrollment opens in early December. Classes begin in January.
- Summer term: Enrollment opens in early April. Classes begin in late May.
- Fall term: Enrollment opens in early July. Classes begin in August.

Larry Robinson, M.F.A., has taught painting, drawing and color theory in the Bay Area since 1979. He is owner and director of Oakdale Painting Studio in San Francisco. His work has been exhibited at the Phoenix Museum of Art; Dana Reich Gallery in San Francisco; and Claudia Chapline Gallery in Stinson Beach, Calif.
