From Republic to Empire: Reading Roman History, 100-1 BC
There are currently no sections open for enrollment.
This course will examine the dramatic transformation of Rome from republic to empire that occurred during the first century BC. The last century of the republic and the first under the Julio-Claudian emperors also witnessed a great output of literature, appropriately called the Golden Age. Special attention will also be placed on the coinage minted during this era. The field of numismatics can provide a valuable eyewitness account of history, adding substantial information to our body of knowledge if we read the coin images correctly.
