Learning From the Masters: Techniques of the Literary Greats

An elective in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program in WritingDevelop your skills in creating fiction by closely studying the work and methods of great writers as diverse as Raymond Carver, James Baldwin, Ernest Hemingway and Alice Munro. Examine how these authors draw the reader in, introduce tension, sustain momentum, and use vivid details and specific incidents to create unforgettable settings and characters.

Courses are offered three terms per year: spring, summer, fall. Information about upcoming courses is available when enrollment opens each term.
- Spring term: Enrollment opens in early December. Classes begin in January.
- Summer term: Enrollment opens in early April. Classes begin in late May.
- Fall term: Enrollment opens in early July. Classes begin in August.

Laurie Ann Doyle, M.F.A., is the winner of the Alligator Juniper National Fiction Award and recipient of 2012 Pushcart and Best New American Voices 2008 nominations. Her short stories, essays and poems have appeared in more than a dozen literary publications, including Arroyo Literary Review, Dogwood Journal and Farallon Review.
