An elective in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Writing and in the Specialized Program in Professional WritingJournalism is undergoing historic change as citizen reporters publish on the Internet while mainstream news organizations race to add interactivity, context and diversity to their traditional focus on accuracy. Get a practical, task-based introduction to news writing and reporting, and learn standards embraced by the best media practitioners, old and new. Study story selection and planning. Learn how to develop sources; interview and research; write fast, vivid prose; and revise and edit. You also get an introduction to multimedia and blogging.

Future-Term Courses and Enrollments
Courses are offered three terms per year: spring, summer, fall. Information about upcoming courses is available when enrollment opens each term.
- Spring term: Enrollment opens in early December. Classes begin in January.
- Summer term: Enrollment opens in early April. Classes begin in late May.
- Fall term: Enrollment opens in early July. Classes begin in August.

Jackie Krentzman is a Berkeley-based custom publisher specializing in corporate, nonprofit and university communications. Her client list includes Diversity Woman magazine (founding editor) for the University of California, Berkeley, Sunset Publications, Comcast, Healthy Cal (a public health foundation), The State of California Travel and Tourism Commission and the San Francisco Giants. She has also taught in the magazine program at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, her alma mater. Currently, she is executive producing a documentary for PBS on the history of the San Francisco Jewish community.
