An elective in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Writing and in the Specialized Program in Professional Writing
Journalism is undergoing historic change as citizen reporters publish on the Internet while mainstream news organizations race to add interactivity, context and diversity to their traditional focus on accuracy. Get a practical, task-based introduction to news writing and reporting, and learn standards embraced by the best media practitioners, old and new. Study story selection and planning. Learn how to develop sources; interview and research; write fast, vivid prose; and revise and edit. You also get an introduction to multimedia and blogging.

Courses are offered three terms per year: spring, summer, fall. Information about upcoming courses is available when enrollment opens each term.
- Spring term: Enrollment opens in early December. Classes begin in January.
- Summer term: Enrollment opens in early April. Classes begin in late May.
- Fall term: Enrollment opens in early July. Classes begin in August.
