Steven L. West, Ph.D., educational consultant, was a Fulbright scholar to Turkey and also taught Turkish, Ottoman and cultural history at UCLA and the University of Pennsylvania. He has been giving programs in ESL teacher training and cross-cultural communication since 1980.

A requirement in the Certificate Program in Teaching English as a Second LanguageGet an introduction to the concepts in linguistics and sociolinguistics relevant to the teaching of English as a second language (TESL). If you are a TESL certificate student, you should take this course first, as it provides a foundation for other TESL studies.
