Summer Fiction Writing Intensive Application Requirements

Mark your calendar now for this exciting weeklong intensive in San Francisco that helps you take your fiction writing to the next level. Immerse yourself in daily writing exercises, workshops, craft lectures and readings by award-winning fiction writers and Bay Area guest authors.
Lindsey Crittenden and Laurie Ann Doyle—veteran instructors and award-winning fiction writers—lead morning workshops with Bay Area guest authors Dan Coshnear, Ryan Sloan, Jane Anne Staw and Lysley Tenorio make appearances.
To apply you must submit an original fiction writing samples of up to 1,500 words (double spaced and paginated) and a $25 nonrefundable application fee. Manuscripts may be emailed to UC Berkeley Extension's Writing Program at letters@unex.berkeley.edu or sent via U.S. mail to The Writing Program / Summer Fiction Writing Intensive, UC Berkeley Extension, 1995 University Ave., Suite 110, Berkeley, CA 94704-7000.
Writing sample submission deadline is Monday, June 3.
Application fees may be paid through the enroll system on this website, by credit card at (510) 642-4111 or by enclosing a check with your mailed manuscript. Please make checks payable to UC Regents.
Note: There is a $750 fee for the Summer Fiction Writing Intensive course. This intensive is open to all interested writers. Enrollment in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program in Writing is not required.
Future-Term Courses and Enrollments
Courses are offered three terms per year: spring, summer, fall. Information about upcoming courses is available when enrollment opens each term.
- Spring term: Enrollment opens in early December. Classes begin in January.
- Summer term: Enrollment opens in early April. Classes begin in late May.
- Fall term: Enrollment opens in early July. Classes begin in August.
