A suggested prerequisite for students taking Editorial Workshop I: Introduction to CopyeditingA strong command of English grammar, syntax, and mechanics is vital for writers and editors, who must be able to express themselves or edit the work of others clearly, confidently, and correctly. This course provides a practical understanding of grammar and the logic governing syntax and punctuation use. Topics include terminology for analyzing grammar and syntax, sentence structure, verb tenses, punctuation, word choice (diction, usage, and tone), and transitions. A diagnostic test is given at the first session.
Enrollment is limited.

- Spring term: Enrollment opens in early December. Classes begin in January.
- Summer term: Enrollment opens in early April. Classes begin in late May.
