UNIX/Linux System Security

Get an overview of computer security, with emphasis on UNIX, Linux and Mac OS X. Analyze local and network threats to security, and discuss guidelines for maintaining a good security posture. Use of encryption for securing communications and ensuring authenticity is a major topic. The trade-offs between security and access requirements are examined. Hands-on laboratory exercises explore standard UNIX commands and open-source software for maintaining security. You also discuss Web-based threats and the use of firewalls to insulate a network from the Internet.
Prerequisite:
UNIX/Linux System Administration I: Essentials X422.8 or equivalent experience

- Spring term: Enrollment opens in early December. Classes begin in January.
- Summer term: Enrollment opens in early April. Classes begin in late May.
