Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How many courses are required for this program?
A. There are three core courses and four specialization courses that must be completed to receive the certificate.
Q. Can I take some courses from each specialization?
A. No, you must choose one specialization and complete all the required courses. However, you can complete both specializations.
Q. How long does it take to complete the program?
A. Though the program is self-paced, most students take one and half to two years to complete the courses. You have a maximum of five years to complete all courses.
Q. Can I complete this program online?
A. Yes, you can complete the specialization for the Accounting for Financial and Business Analysts certificate online. At this time, Accounting for Controllers is not available entirely online.
Q. What is the estimated cost of the program?
A. While each course is priced individually, the certificate program has an estimated cost of $4,900. Course fees are subject to change.
Q. What day does a class start? Where does it take place, etc.?
A. For all information on current courses, please consult our course catalog or accounting certificate website at www.unex.berkeley.edu/cert/account.html.
Q. I already took a few of the required courses at another college. Can I transfer the credits to UC Berkeley Extension?
A. You may request to transfer up to two (2) courses from an accredited U.S. university if the courses were taken in the last five years. For more information, please request the Substitution and Transfer Guidelines from the program representative.
Q. I am interested in taking the CPA Exam. Do the courses at UC Berkeley Extension count towards the required 24 units of Accounting, Taxation, and Auditing credit required by the state CPA Board? If so, which courses are eligible?
A. Yes. All of the courses in the Accounting section of the UC Berkeley Extension catalog count towards the CPA exam requirements.
Q. Do you have counselors, career advisers, or job placement?
A. No, at this time we do not provide these services to our students, though the program representative is happy to discuss outside options and opportunities with you.
