Construction Management Certificate Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Are there prerequisites for admission?
A.
There are no prerequisites for the Certificate in Construction Management, but a bachelor's degree is recommended.

Q. What is the registration procedure?
A.
You may enroll in courses before you officially register for the certificate program but must register by the time you complete your third course. To register online, complete the secure registration form.

Q. Can I substitute courses into the program?
A.
Courses from an accredited institution with a grade B or better can be substituted for up to two courses. Once you are registered for the program, no substitutions or waivers will be allowed. Substitutions must be approved in writing by UC Berkeley Extension.

Q. How long does it take to complete the program?
A.
The program can be completed at your own pace. It will take a minimum of three semesters to complete the program; however, the course requirements must be completed within five years to earn a certificate of completion. You must notify us in writing when you have received the final grade report for your last course.

Q. Is the program offered online?
A.
At this time, we do not have an online or distance learning format. All courses must be completed in the classroom.

Q. Should the courses be taken in a particular order?
A.
Courses may be taken in any order, but we recommend that you start the program with X464 Management in the Construction Industry.

Q. What is the grading policy?
A.
All courses must be taken for a letter grade. A grade point average of 3.0 is required in order to earn the certificate, and each course must be completed with a grade of C or better. If you maintain a 3.5 grade point average or higher you will be awarded a Certificate with Distinction.

Q. How much does it cost to complete the program?
A.
The approximate cost of the program is $5,000. Each course is paid for separately at the time of enrollment. Because the course fees may vary from semester to semester, this is only an estimate.

Q. Is financial aid available?
A.
E-mail FinAsst@unex.berkeley.edu or call (510) 643-2843 for more information.

Q. Can international students enroll in the program?
A.

Q. Is job placement assistance available for graduates of UC Berkeley Extension's certificate program?
A.
UC Berkeley Extension does not provide job assistance. Some instructors, however, may have information about job opportunities within their companies or industries.
