Substitutions, Waivers and Transfer Credit
Q. How many courses are required for this certificate?
A. There are seven required courses and one elective course (15 total units) that must be completed to receive the Finance certificate. Students have a choice of two specializations: Investment Management and Capital Markets.
Q. Can I take some courses from each specialization?
A. No, you must choose one specialization and complete all the required courses. You can complete all two specializations, but you will need to register for each specialization.
Q. How long does it take to complete the certificate?
A. Though the certificate is self-paced, most students take one-and-a-half to two years to complete the courses. You have a maximum of five years to complete all courses.
Q. Can I complete this certificate online?
A. Not all classes are available online at this time.
Q. What is the estimated cost of the certificate?
A. While each course is priced individually, the certificate has an estimated cost of $5,845. All course fees are subject to change.
UC Berkeley Extension is a self-supporting institution and therefore cannot provide student financial aid.
Q. What day does a class start? Where does it take place?
A. For all information on current courses, please consult our course catalog or the certificate page.
Q. I see that there are two recommended prerequisites to begin this certificate (in accounting and economics). Must I take these courses through Extension?
A. No, you can complete these two courses at any point during your previous education. You may also choose to complete these courses at another institution before beginning your studies. These prerequisites are not mandatory, and we do not need to see transcripts.
Q. I already took a few of the required courses at another college. Can I transfer the credits to UC Berkeley Extension?
A. You may request to transfer up to two courses from an accredited U.S. university if the courses were taken in the last five years. For more information, please request the Substitution and Transfer form from the program director.
Q. I am interested in applying to an M.B.A. program. Are any of the units from UC Berkeley Extension transferable?
A. Students interested in pursuing an M.B.A. or other graduate degree should contact the registrar of the graduate school to which you are applying to inquire about course transfer. We cannot guarantee that any courses will be accepted into another institution, including UC Berkeley.
Q. Do you have counselors, career advisers or job placement?
A. No, at this time we do not provide these services to our students, though the certificate representative is happy to discuss outside options and opportunities with you.
Q. Can I register for this certificate as an international student?
A. Yes, this certificate is approved for our Evening Certificate Programs for international students.
