Courses available in classroom and online formats offer the flexibility to meet your needs. You can combine classroom and online study, or complete the certificate entirely online.

Program Requirements
The program consists of six courses (12 semester units), including four required courses (8 semester units) and two electives (4 semester units).

You also may choose from any of the marketing electives available in the classroom format. Additional courses are being developed in the online format.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for the Certificate Program in Marketing, but a bachelor’s degree is recommended.
Substitution of Courses
At least two-thirds of your semester units must be taken through UC Berkeley Extension, although you may substitute up to two courses with equivalent subject matter and taught by an accredited college or university. To be considered to receive credit toward your certificate in marketing, you must have earned a grade of B or better in these substitute courses and taken them with the past five years. UC Berkeley Extension must approve substitutions in writing.
How to Begin
You can begin the program with any required or elective course, but starting with Introduction to Marketing X460.1is recommended.
Registration Procedure
You may enroll in courses before you officially register for the certificate program, but registering before you begin your third course is recommended. To register, please (1) complete and submit the
Program Registration Form or (2) print out and complete the form at
www.unex.berkeley.edu/cert/certproginfo.html. Mail it as indicated and include the nonrefundable registration fee. You cannot register for the certificate by phone.
Requirements may be updated, based on new developments in the field; we recommend completing your program in a timely fashion. Contact the marketing program office at (510) 642-4231 when you finish your final course.
Grading Policy
All courses must be taken for a letter grade. A grade point average of at least 2.5 is required to earn the certificate, and each course must be completed with a grade of C or better. If you maintain a 3.7 or higher grade point average, you will be awarded a Certificate with Distinction.
Already Enrolled in the Marketing Certificate?
Course requirements for the marketing certificate have changed, beginning with the spring 2009 term. If you have already paid your $100 certificate registration fee, you may choose to continue with the previous course requirements, or you may choose to complete the new requirements.
