Dear Colleague,

People such as yourself who choose UC Berkeley Extension for their professional development needs share the same motivation to succeed, whether that success is achieved by learning a new set of skills in a particular area of practice or by satisfying continuing education requirements. We honor your commitment to excellence and promise to respect that effort by providing you with courses and workshops that reflect the quality, timeliness, and inspiration you expect from the Berkeley name.

Please review the exciting new offerings in our fall 2009 Counseling and Psychology brochure and enroll in an individual CEU workshop or in one of our outstanding workshop series. These professional programs allow you to create a focus for your mandatory CEU requirements and improve your knowledge in specialized fields to make you a better practitioner. This fall, required workshops for each of the professional programs are being offered at convenient times and locations at both our Berkeley and San Francisco centers—try one and see if you want to complete the program during the coming two-year re-licensure cycle.

For those of who may be expanding your client caseload to include older adults, you should consider Mindy Ginne's two-day workshop, which is a requirement in the Aging and Mental Health program. Or, you may be drawn to the very timely workshop on The Psychology of Money in Difficult Times. We also are offering workshops on special topics, such as autism and treating personality disorders, and another on treating manic symptoms, taught by Professor Sheri Johnson of UC Berkeley, a leading expert in the field.

The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies Certificate Program is offering an elective on the role of spirituality in recovery as well as a new workshop on treating LGBT adults with co-existing disorders taught by Robert Cabaj, M.D., director of the Community Behavioral Health Services in the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

I am happy to announce that our popular Counseling and Psychotherapy as a Career Option workshop is now being taught by Dan Fronczak, Psy.D., a psychologist at Kaiser Oakland and a former UC Berkeley Extension student in the same course!

We welcome your comments and ideas for new courses and curricula. Contact us at counspsych@unex.berkeley.edu.
