The 20th Symposium of the International Association for Vehicle System Dynamics provides a framework for the free and informal exchange of ideas about ground vehicle system dynamics.
Each morning is devoted to a general session that will be of interest to both rail and road scientists. Each afternoon offers three parallel sessions focusing on the topics of road vehicle dynamics, rail vehicle dynamics, and automatic control applications.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Program Offerings (tentative)
The general session will be conducted in Sibley Auditorium, UC Berkeley, and smaller lecture rooms in the Bechtel Center will house the afternoon parallel sessions. The proposed titles of the afternoon sessions are:
* Automotive/Truck Vehicle Dynamics
* Railway Vehicle Dynamics
* Vehicle Control Applications
Technical sessions will be held at the Bechtel Center.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Technical Visits: Tentative plans have been made for technical visits to take place during and after the symposium. Some possibilities are: the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) control center, the California PATH research center, the combined GM/Toyota manufacturing facility, and many Berkeley campus laboratories that feature road and rail areas of interest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spouse and Partner Program: Please note that there is not a formal spouse and partner program being planned for the 2007 IAVSD Symposium. Spouses and partners who are attending will be "on their own" for planning various activities and tours. UC Berkeley staff will be happy to make recommendations and give suggestions for different destinations and activities that are available to nearby attractions. Recommendations for spouse or partner activities will be offered from the rich array of options available in the Bay Area, one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. The city of San Francisco, for example, is an easy 20-minute BART ride from the conference site. The wine country of Napa Valley is within an hour’s drive, and the beautiful Monterey/Carmel area is within three hours.
If you would like information prior to your arrival to the Symposium, feel free to contact us directly at (510) 642-4151 or e-mail iavsd@unex.berkeley.edu.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Post-Symposium Tours: There are no organized and formal post-symposium tours being planned for participants once the IAVSD Symposium concludes on Friday, August 17th. Once the Symposium officially ends on Friday, participants are free to explore the local area. There are many attractions and destinations available to participants around the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area.
