How to Apply

1. Getting Started

The first step is to select the certificate that's right for you. Next, decide whether you would like to begin your program in the fall or spring term. Check application deadlines.

Note: Some certificates begin only in the fall. Summer applications are not accepted.

2. Compile All Application Materials

Your complete application has eight components, and each of these items must be provided for your application to be considered. All documents must be original, unless stated otherwise.

  1. Enrollment application (PDF)
  2. $150 application fee
  3. Statement of purpose and background (350 words maximum)
  4. Financial statement in English
  5. Résumé/curriculum vitae (C.V.)
  6. Proof of English language proficiency
  7. Proof of university degree completion, with translation if necessary
  8. Copy of valid passport photo identification page and expiration date

3. Submit Your Application

Policies

Notice of Acceptance

The full application review process can take three to four weeks. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, in the order they are received, and only complete applications are reviewed. Courses can fill before the application deadline, so send your completed application as soon as possible. You will be notified by mail regarding your acceptance status and further instructions.

Transfer Policy

If you are an international student already residing in the United States and want to transfer to the Evening Certificate Programs, please contact the International Student Administrative Services office at (510) 642-2564 or intl_students@unex.berkeley.edu.

How to Cancel Registration in the Evening Certificate Programs

If you choose to cancel your participation in the Evening Certificate Programs, you must notify the ISAS office by the first date on your I-20 to be eligible for a refund of your international student fee.

Access to Your Documents

Once submitted, all application materials become the property of UC Berkeley Extension and cannot be returned, duplicated or forwarded to you or a third party at any time.
