Deadlines and Fees

Application Deadlines

You may begin the Evening Certificate Programs in late August for the fall term or early January for the spring term. Applications are not accepted for the summer term. Some professional certificates begin only in the fall.

Due to lengthy visa appointment and processing times (up to 30 days in some countries), we recommend that you send us your complete application as soon as possible.

Fees

To participate in the Evening Certificate Programs, you must pay a nonrefundable application fee, a one-time international student fee and course fees.

Application Fee: $150 required with your application (nonrefundable)

International Student Fee: $4,450 to cover certificate, student advising services and your first year of U.S. medical insurance. Certificates that take more than one year to complete require you to pay an annual insurance fee for each additional year.

Course Fees: The cost associated with each course varies depending on the program and specific courses you select. Course fees are subject to change and must be paid in full each term when you enroll. The chart below provides an estimate of current course fees and total expenses for each Evening Certificate Program.

All fees must be paid directly to UC Berkeley Extension in U.S. dollars, using our student payment portal, credit card, bank draft or bank wire transfer. Learn more about payment options.

Living Expenses

Housing and living costs vary widely in the San Francisco Bay Area. Because most Evening Certificate Programs take one year to complete, you should plan your budget accordingly. How to Cancel Registration in the Evening Certificate Programs

If you choose to cancel your participation in the Evening Certificate Programs, you must notify the ISAS office by the first date on your I-20 to be eligible for a partial refund of your international student fee.
