Fall Program for Freshmen (FPF) students are eligible to apply for on-campus housing and have access to most UC Berkeley student services. Once you get your Cal 1 Card photo ID, you can access UC Berkeley campus buildings and events, including libraries, healthcare offices, sports facilities, and Cal Athletics home games. You may also use the card as a debit account for purchasing meals in the Cal dining rooms, convenience items, meal plans, and public transit passes.
Note: FPF students are not eligible to participate in UC Berkeley NCAA athletic team sports during the fall semester. The use of the Recreational Sports Facility will incur an additional charge for FPF students for the fall semester only.
[Back to Top]The UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office administers financial aid and scholarships for students in FPF. If you are awarded financial aid, you may apply your award to the cost of FPF. Once your financial aid file is complete, you should receive your award letter from the Financial Aid Office by mid-April. In some cases, full financial need may not be met. In general, you must maintain a minimum unit load of 12 units to receive financial aid.
For financial aid information, you may contact the UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office at (510) 642-6442. Please identify yourself as a UC Berkeley Extension Fall Program for Freshmen student when contacting them.

[Back to Top]Your FPF program fee covers basic medical care services through University Health Services (UHS) at the Tang Center. UHS provides medical care and clinical services, health education and promotion, counseling and psychological services, and more. However, UHS does not provide hospitalization and specialty services.
UC Berkeley requires all students, including FPF students, to carry supplemental health insurance to cover the costs of hospitalization and specialty services. You will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) when you enroll in FPF. See our Fees page for costs.
If you already carry a major medical insurance policy, you may request a waiver for the SHIP fee. You can find waiver and deadline information on the University Health Services website, or contact them directly to learn more.
