Certificate Program in Interior Design and Interior Architecture consists of a 29-course sequence that offers design theory, drawing and communication techniques, and practical preparation. You will learn traditional skills as well as develop proficiency with computer-aided drawing programs and new technologies that are used in the design world today.

Founded in 1984, our program continues to maintain the highest standards for its curriculum, instructors, and students. Our graduates are well-trained and prepared to take the California Interior Design Exam (IDEX) to become a California Certified Interior Designer (CID) as well as the national NCIDQ exam.

Interior Design and Interior Architecture

Gain the knowledge of interior design you need to create aesthetic, innovative, and practical environments for work and play. In the Bay Area’s only part-time program accredited by the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), our instructors are prominent professionals from top design and architecture firms in the area. Our Interior Design and Interior Architecture program provides introductory courses and electives open to all adults curious about the profession and those interested in learning the basics of design in order to develop a professional career.

Featured Courses

Managing the LEED Documentation Process provides practical training on how to lead eco-charrettes, troubleshoot potential setbacks, and coordinate the responsibilities of each team member. Course begins November 17 in San Francisco.


Construction Green Building Materials for LEED examines construction green building materials as evaluated by LEED rating system. Course begins on November 24 in Berkeley.


Business Negotiating teaches you successful negotiation skills through role play and case studies from real life, giving you the knowledge and experience to handle difficult conversations, communicate with people from different cultures, uncover hidden value, discover optimal job interview techniques, and negotiate salary. Course begins November 14 in San Francisco.


Two-Day Business Writing Workshop provides techniques how to best target readers, select and organize information, and use clear language that can then be applied to job-related memos, e-mail, letters, reports, and other documents. Course takes place December 8 and 10 in San Francisco.


Introduction to Interior Design introduces the profession, its history, and its related specialties and disciplines by studying the work of past and present designers and architects. (No prior training necessary)


Principles and Elements of Design explores the basic principles of balance, harmony, rhythm, emphasis, contrast, proportion, scale, unity, and variety with a series of projects. (No prior training necessary)


New! California Design Icons examines the contributions and lasting influence of California's design legends and how they have changed the way we live; it is taught by best-selling author Diane Dorrans Saeks.


Fundamentals of AutoCAD is ideal for those who have never used a computer-aided drawing program or for those who would like to have an introduction to the tools that are used to create drawings in AutoCAD Design Studio.


Kitchen Design is a design studio course in which you produce a viable project while learning about the components that comprise a well-designed kitchen.


Revit I and Revit II introduces students to the basic principles in Revit®, a new building information modeling (BIM) program and its uses in the design process.
