What is UC Berkeley Extension? How is it related to the University of California, Berkeley?
Since 1891, UC Berkeley Extension has been a respected provider of adult and professional education. As the continuing-education branch of the University of California, Berkeley, Extension offers focused, goal-oriented training in the classroom and online through a rigorous program of UC Berkeley–approved study. UC Berkeley Extension—like all other UC Berkeley schools, colleges and departments—is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) through the University.
What is a certificate?
A certificate—widely recognized as proof of the successful completion of a high-caliber, in-depth course of study—is the highest level of academic achievement offered by UC Berkeley Extension. Certificate curricula are approved by an academic advisory board comprising industry experts; University of California, Berkeley, professors; and UC Berkeley Extension academic staff. A UC Berkeley Extension certificate qualifies as an academic credential that may be included on a résumé.
Are Extension credits transferable? Will earning an Extension certificate give me an advantage on my UC Berkeley application?
UC Berkeley Extension courses carry academic credit that may be applied toward a degree, professional licensing or other professional requirements. The acceptance of UC Berkeley Extension credits toward a degree is always determined by the institution to which you are applying, including the University of California. Completion of Extension coursework does not provide an advantage on applications to UC Berkeley.
