Program Description IDPs are fast-track business training programs, with intense study completed in a condensed time frame. Evening Certificate Programs are in-depth business, art, design, and technology programs that offer comprehensive understanding of a topic, paired with a flexible schedule.
Length of Study

Each IDP can be completed in four months, or you can combine an academic program and an internship for up to 12 months of study.

IDP Certificate - four months

Disciplines include:

IDP + Internship: eight months

Management and Business Track – one year

Complete two IDP certificates and an internship in three consecutive four-month terms

Most Evening Certificate Programs can be completed in approximately one year. The programs and time required to complete each one are:

  • Business Administration – nine months to one year
  • Finance – one year
  • Interior Design and Interior
  • Architecture – three years
  • Information Systems and management – one year
  • Landscape Architecture – three years
  • Marketing – nine months to one year
  • Project Management – one year
  • Visual Arts – one year
Class Schedule/pace Full-time, weekday schedule, with additional seminars and field trips. Full-time course load, but with a flexible schedule; classes are held in the evening and on weekends. Your days are free for study.

Classes meet in the UC Berkeley Extension Golden Bear Center in downtown Berkeley.

Additional seminars and field trips are held in various locations around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Your Fellow Students Study with a core group of international students through your entire program. The shared experience will help you develop rich relationships and professional contacts around the world. Immerse yourself in U.S. culture, studying alongside American students. In each class you will meet new friends and become familiar with local customs and practices.
Special Features for International Students Programs include seminars and field trips of particular interest to international students. There are no special features for international students because you participate in the same program as your American counterparts.
Language Proficiency Requirement All programs require a TOEFL score of at least 213 on the computer-based exam, or 550 on the paper-based exam, or 79 on the iBT, or 6.5 on the IELTS, or a Pass the Cambridge exam, or alternative proof of English proficiency.
Academic Prerequisites A bachelor's degree is required for all programs. Some programs have specific additional prerequisites.
Program Costs $13,500–$29,000
Includes student fees, course fees, health insurance, and textbooks.
  • International student fee is $4,400 and includes health insurance for the first year.
  • Course fees vary from $5,300 to $22,000 depending on the program you select.
  • Textbook costs are additional and can range from $500 to $1,500 depending on the program you select.
