Featured Courses

A beginning course in the Certificate Program in Landscape Architecture, Introduction to Landscape Architecture explores the history of landscape architecture; the central ideas of the profession; the role of the designer in the problem-solving process; and the nature, modes, and scope of current landscape architectural practice.


Principles and Elements of Design provides an opportunity to explore and develop your creativity in a studio course.


Autumn Plants and Applications examines in detail visual characteristics, nomenclature, nurturing requirements, and design application of approximately 125 species of trees, shrubs, and ground covers commonly used in landscaping in Northern California.


Great Twentieth-Century Gardeners and Their Gardens explores the work of the many of the most celebrated garden designers. Lectures accompanied by extensive slide presentations make up this a eight-week course.


The Literary Garden: Readings in Landscape and Garden Design examines the writings of authors, gardeners, and designers as it seeks define the meaning of gardens and identify the role of time and metaphor in these special places. The class format will include extensively illustrated lectures and field trips.

In this 12-week course Value: The Exploration of Cultural and Spiritual Meanings in Landscape Design, Topher Delaney and other expert guest speakers share their understanding and insights on fundamental concepts of history, aesthetics, and spiritual and political implications of landscape creation.
