UC Berkeley Extension's concurrent enrollment program provides an opportunity for students to enroll in UC Berkeley courses on campus on a space-available basis. Students who need to fulfill a course requirement in a specific subject area, satisfy prerequisites for graduate school, or earn additional units to complete a degree, have discovered that concurrent enrollment offers an opportunity to pick up the classes they need. Currently, UC Berkeley has fall courses available for concurrent enrollment across a broad range of subject areas, including courses in economics, sociology, philosophy, statistics, industrial engineering, gender and women's studies, theater, dance and performance and more. Many of the available courses are of interest to a broad population of students, and have either no prerequisites or prerequisites that are taken by a large percentage of students. And, students do not need to be admitted to UC Berkeley to apply for concurrent enrollment.
Because classes at UC Berkeley begin August 26, students interested in concurrent enrollment are urged to apply immediately. Most California state universities and community colleges have cross-enrollment programs in place to assist students who want to take advantage of concurrent enrollment programs.
Courses are not limited to college students. Concurrent enrollment is also open to qualified high school students who are college bound and want to get a jump on their college education, as well as adults interested in taking a course.
All applications must be reviewed and fully approved by the class instructor of record, the campus department offering the course, and in some cases, the school or college before an applicant can be fully enrolled.
Concurrent enrollment is only available for spring and fall terms. Deadline for fall 2009 courses is September 25. Read our overview of concurrent enrollment or call UC Berkeley Extension Student Administrative Services at (510) 642-4111.
