Unique Academic Vacation Attracts Travelers from All Walks of Life
Berkeley, CA. (Dec. 17, 2009)—Tired of being a summer tourist? Imagine yourself as an Oxford scholar, immersed in the history, culture, architecture and beauty of one of the world's oldest universities.
Hundreds of people from all walks of life have become summer Oxford scholars through the Oxford/Berkeley Program. This popular program, now in its forty-first year, attracts travelers from all walks of life—teachers, doctors, students, homemakers and retirees—seeking a unique travel experience. Scholars live and study at medieval Merton College, one of the oldest and most beautiful colleges in Oxford. Attendees live in the ancient quads on campus, study in the famous Bodleian Library, stroll through Oxford's botanical gardens and world-renowned museums, and enjoy lively dinner conversation with tutors and fellow students at rectory tables in the magnificent Hall.
Seminars for the 2010 program, which runs July 19–August 7, cover a variety of topics from Shakespeare's comedies and ancient Greek mythology to the history of England's cathedrals and abbeys, English architecture and design, Victorian and Edwardian homes, the Tudor monarchy, and the Royal Navy. Seminars meet each weekday morning and combine classroom instruction with independent study and field trips to historic sites. All are taught by university tutors who are experts in their fields and scholars earn academic credit for each three-week seminar.
Registration for the 2010 Oxford/Berkeley Program is currently open. More information about the Oxford/Berkeley Program and the 2010 summer seminars is available at extension.berkeley.edu/oxford.
