New Online Courses and Programs in Sustainability Studies, Biotechnology, and More Highlight Expanded Offerings
Berkeley, CA. (Dec. 9, 2009)—Hundreds of spring classes, along with a host of new and updated programs for professionals seeking to advance or change their careers, are now open for enrollment at UC Berkeley Extension. Created to meet the evolving demands for education and training in a changing economy, thirteen new and updated programs join UC Berkeley Extension's growing list of widely respected professional certificates and specialized programs of study.
Professional certificates acknowledge the highest level of academic achievement that UC Berkeley Extension offers. An academic advisory board consisting of industry experts, University of California, Berkeley professors, and UC Berkeley Extension academic staff oversees and approves the curriculum. Specialized programs of study offer focused subject concentrations that enable students to develop and hone a skill set within a specific area or discipline.
For professionals pursuing new opportunities in the emerging global green economy, UC Berkeley Extension has two new programs in its Sustainability Studies department: Leadership in Sustainability and Environmental Management and Solar Energy and Green Building.
In the high-growth biotech and clinical research fields, Extension is offering new programs in Quality and Compliance for Biotechnology and Clinical Research Conduct and Management.
Business professionals have several options to choose from this spring: the Project Risk Managementand Project Quality Management programs, as well as a newly updated professional certificate in Finance and an updated program in Paralegal Studies.
Licensed clinicians can earn continuing education units with the Trauma-Informed Interventions program. The updated Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies professional certificate offers cutting-edge training in addictions counseling.

For teachers, tutors, and others who work with students for whom English is a second language, the specialized program of study in English Learner Pedagogy provides effective teaching skills and strategies for working with English learners.
In addition, UC Berkeley Extension offers more than 165 fully online courses, approved by UC Berkeley for academic credit, to meet the growing demand for online education. This spring, Extension has new online courses in Sustainable Design, Landscape Architecture, Immunology, Social Media Marketing, Clinical Trial Planning, and Business Analysis Essentials along with new accelerated online courses in Project Management.
