UC Berkeley Extension Counseling and Psychotherapy Programs Receive UPCEA Award

University Professional and Continuing Education Association recognizes eight Counseling and Psychotherapy programs

Berkeley, Calif. (April 9, 2012)—UC Berkeley Extension’s professional programs in Counseling and Psychotherapy are the 2012 recipient of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) Outstanding Noncredit Program Award. UPCEA, an organization of higher-education institutions, promotes excellence in university professional and continuing education by increasing awareness of the importance of lifelong learning.

The programs, developed by UC Berkeley Extension Behavioral Health Sciences Director Stan Weisner, Ph.D., M.S.W., offer continuing education units (CEUs) in the following practice areas: Aging and Mental Health, Child and Adolescent Treatment, Eating and Weight Disorders, Neuropsychological Assessment, the Study of Loss and Grief, Trauma-Informed Interventions, the Treatment of Anxiety Disorders and the Treatment of Mood Disorders.

“These workshop series were developed in collaboration with UC Berkeley campus faculty, researchers and Bay Area clinicians to provide the most current, evidence-based treatment approaches to practicing mental health clinicians,” says Weisner, former lecturer at UC Berkeley Extension’s School of Social Welfare.

“This award is a testament to the intense dedication of Stan Weisner and the outstanding clinicians who teach the workshops in these programs,” says UC Berkeley Extension Dean Diana Wu. “The competitive nature of the UPCEA Outstanding Program Award really demonstrates the excellence of these programs and the professional value they offer our students.”
