Course DescriptionThe futuristic AC smart grid is built upon the concept of computerized command and control over a parallel data network to improve efficiency and reliability of electrical power distribution. In this survey course, you first review the communication technology for distribution automation of AC energy and then advance into technology trade-off considerations. Build a foundation for understanding the control network from the generation site to the end appliance in a residential home, including networking theory, trade-offs of various radio technologies, protocols and security issues.
